Jon has been working in LA and Long Beach, CA as the guitarist and keyboardist in Rickshaw. A project led by drummer and producer Marshall Goodman aka

RAS MG former member of Sublime and Long Beach Dub All-Stars. Rickshaw is the backing band for Mr. Goodman’s Marshal Arts Music, a production house in which he has entrusted Jon’s musical expertise as session musician, arranger, and composer. Martial Art’s Music will release a new compilation early this Fall.


Also with Rickshaw Jon supported the artist Jack Maness performing at venues such as  the Wiltern Theatre, House of Blues, and the El Rey Theatre with Donavan.


On his off days Jon collaborats  with electronic music guru Henry Strange writing dance beats and pop hooks signature’d with Henry Strange original sound bank.


Jon is also officially in the band with famed Long Beach kids, Roland Sands, Karl Drehsen, and Andy. “This is a big achievement  for Jon since he returned to southern california”, says DJ, curator and clothing designer Casey Carver.

Since age 9, Jon has been writing songs and music on the guitar and piano.

He trained privately and at Poly High School in Long Beach, CA. Undergrad in Piano Performance at the University of Tamp and then a Masters in composition at New York University. Jon has composed for orchestra, chamber and choral ensembles, piano music, music for dance, and musical theatre. He has scored a number of short films and has freelanced as a commercial composer. He is an avid songwriter blending acoustic and electric guitars, pianos, and keyboards, with insightful, edgy, and witty lyrics. Influences range from Bach, Debussy, to Gershwin and Coltrane, to John Lennon, Jane’s Addiction, Bowie, Dylan, and The Pixies and Duran Duran. Jon’s voice has been said to be “earthy and real” resembling the likes of Neil Young and Trey Anastasio. As a recording artist, composer, and creative mind, Jon divides his time between his hometown in Long Beach, California, Los Angeles, and NYC.

Jon has been recording and independently releasing his music since 1995. First with the international reggae band Tribal Style who toured and shared stages with major acts such as Ziggy Marley, Third World, Lauren Hill, and Burning Spear. After living and working in Jamaica and Florida for 6 years, Jon moved to New York City to study composition at the masters level at NYU. There he studied with composers, Justin Della Joio, Dinu Ghezzo, and Dr. Lawrence Ferrara. He also studied with book writer and Tony award winner Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annuall Putman County Spelling Bee) and has co-written songs for the new musical “Brain Cells” with Ben George and Gretchen Cryer. Also in New York Jon teamed up with producer and songwriter Mitch Winston, who has recorded with session players Tony Levin (Paul Simon) and Vernon Reid. Jon produced, co-wrote, and played guitar, bass, keys, and drums on Mitch Winston 2006 release “Civilized Hyenas”.


Commercial

As a commercial composer and producer Jon has freelanced for major Advertisement companies such as JWT on campaigns for Huggies, Ben & Jerry’s, and De Beer’s, as well as on independent projects for filmmakers, students, and smaller production companies. Jon is also a resident composer, and music producer for Oakley Entertainment, a production company in L.A.

In August 2009, the song “Actor’s Guilt” written and produced by

Jon Tomlinson was used in Fall Out Boy’s short film “Mustachette” written starring Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz.
